Diarrhoea remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality among under five poorest children. UNICEF/WHO Report 2009 indicates that diarrhoea is the second leading cause of death among children under five globally. Nearly one in five child deaths globally– about 1.5 million each year – is due to diarrhoea. Bangladesh as a developing country is also badly facing diarhheal diseases, for example, icddr,b alone annually treats more than 120,000 diarhheal patients in its hospitals. However, Diarrhea related mortality can be dramatically reduced through critical therapies such as prevention and treatment of dehydration with ORS and fluids available in the home, breastfeeding, continued feeding, selective use of antibiotics and zinc supplementation for 10–14 days.
