ICDDR,B is supporting the Government of Bangladesh to respond to H1N1 pandemic influenza, and has already responded to this situation in a number of ways. We continue to provide help and support to IEDCR in their efforts to provide rational advice to policy makers and the population in planning for the outbreak, and have prepared a number of materials in both English and Bengali to provide evidence-based information for the local context. The information is divided into 2 sections:
GENERAL PUBLIC
Testing
No routine testing is available for outpatients at ICDDR,B. This includes Staff Clinic & Travellers’ Clinic. Treatment should be started on clinical grounds before a test result is available.
Seasonal & pandemic influenza

HEALTH PRACTITIONERS
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research, Bangladesh (IEDCR) and National Influenza Centre (NIC), provides a portal to all the Government of Bangladesh information available on H1N1 pandemic influenza.
ICDDR,B technical documents
ICDDR,B, collects detailed information and clinical data that can be used to better understand the H1N1 situation, which assists with disease control and case management both in Bangladesh and worldwide. We are in a position to provide systematically acquired data from both a clinic and a population-base.
This Acute Respiratory Infection unit at the ICDDR,B Dhaka Hospital has locally appropriate triage and management protocols that can be reproduced elsewhere in the country and can serve as a model of a rational approach to the situation. These documents will become available on this website shortly. For further information, or to register you interest in receiving them, please contact the Communications Unit.
