My research focuses on infectious diseases, particularly those that are common in children in developing countries. As well as basic and applied immunology of infectious diseases, our work also encompasses clinical and large field-based studies on enteric vaccines.
Our vaccine and infectious disease research has a particular focus on cholera, enterotoxigenic E. coli diarrhoea, enteric fever due to Salmonella Typhi/Paratyphi and other pathogens common in resource-poor settings.Â
We have a particular interest in understanding the natural course of immune responses, including innate immunity, adaptive immunity, and T and B cell responses. We use a range of approaches, including genomic, proteomic and high-throughput studies, to explore these responses.
A further important goal is to promote the implementation of vaccines and rapid diagnostics in low- and middle-income countries, including technology transfer.
