My research interest is to study the determinants of fertility, mortality, and contraceptive use. I am particularly interested on infant, child, and adolescent health, non-communicable diseases and risk factors, population growth and aging, heath equity and self-rated health and mortality.
To monitor health and demographic indicators of slum population and to evaluate intervention program, I am currently involved to establish the Health and Demographic Surveillance System in selected slums of Dhaka and Gazipur City Corporations. This urban HDSS will provide a platform for investigating linkages between urban poverty, health, and demographic and other socioeconomic outcomes and will facilitate evaluation of interventions.
I am also involved (collaboration with the University of Colorado) in examining the long-term effects of health and human capital interventions on well-being over time and across generations; Matlab HDSS along with survey data will be used for these studies.
