The overall research goal is to develop and implement effective preventative and controlling strategies to prevent emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, considering the local context. My particular area of interest is research on zoonotic diseases, including avian influenza, Nipah and anthrax, and antibiotic resistance.
My recent and ongoing research topics include safe poultry slaughtering intervention to reduce risk of avian influenza transmission to humans; mobile phone-based early warning system; role of social dynamics in transmission of zoonotic pathogens—contact networks, mobility, and healthcare-seeking behavior among Bangladeshi poultry workers; community-based intervention trial to reduce zoonotic transmission of Nipah through date palm sap consumption; hospital-based intervention to improve hand-hygiene practices; use of antibiotics in livestock and poultry.Â
My research experience include communicable diseases, water and sanitation, mass psychogenic illness, Bahai community, midwifery and gender and violence against women in Bangladesh.Â
