Thailand provides COVID-19 swab testing unit to icddr,b

Dhaka, September 8, 2020: H.E. Ms. Arunrung Phothong Humphreys, Ambassador of Thailand to Bangladesh, handed over COVID-19 testing unit to icddr,b. Dr. Tahmeed Ahmed, Acting Executive Director and Senior Director of icddr,b received the COVID-19 swab testing unit on behalf of institution. Another testing unit has been handed over to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) and Dr ASM Alamgir, principal scientific officer of the institute received it. Dr. Dinesh Mondal, Acting Director, Laboratory Sciences and Services Division at icddr,b was also present at the handover ceremony.

The COVID-19 swab testing units (Sample Collection Booths) were shipped from Thailand and will be installed at the respective agencies by SCG International Corporation Co.,Ltd. These units will enable icddr,b and IEDCR to conduct RT-PCR swab tests safely and efficiently as well as use the testing units in mobile settings.

On the occasion, Dr Tahmeed Ahmed thanked H.E. Ms. Arunrung Phothong Humphreys and the Kingdom of Thailand for their generous support to icddr,b.

This collaborative effort by Royal Thai Embassy and SCG aims to contribute to Bangladesh’s fight against COVID-19.
