As an Assistant Scientist and Physician, I work mainly in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the icddr,b hospital. In the ICU I attend to critical patients round the clock and try my best to provide the upmost care to our patients. During the COVID-19 pandemic I provided frontline intensive care to icddr,b staff and their family members who were suffering from COVID-19 and admitted to our hospital as well as to suspected COVID -19 patients coming to hospital with diarrheal diseases. Currently, I am working on a project where the research is based on critical children admitted to the ICU who are suffering from fluid refractory shock and malnutrition.Â
Why I work at icddr,b:
I decided to work at icddr,b as I felt the work environment was encouraging and my colleagues were very cooperative. In my early childhood, I lived nearby icddr,b Matlab Hospital with my family and used to visit the hospital with one of my neighbors who was working as a nurse there. Those visits inspired me to work one day at icddr,b. I am motived to work at icddr,b as I feel the research I am doing can also be implemented first-hand and influence a larger part of the population.
Future Plans:
In the future, I want to continue working in the clinical field and supplement it with the research activities I am currently engaged in. As I am interested in the fields of child malnutrition, diarrhoeal diseases and sepsis, I envision myself working for icddr,b in the foreseeable future.
