“My work on Tuberculosis (TB) is crucial for improving the health of people in Bangladesh by making TB related health care services accessible, acceptable and available to all.”

From childhood I knew I wanted to do something that would make a positive change in society. This feeling is what drove me from a very young age. I always found science very interesting and my academic perseverance resulted in an opportunity to study medical science. After getting my MBBS degree from Dhaka Medical College, I enrolled in the Institute of Health Economics at University of Dhaka for my Masters. My practical experience in Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the desire to make positive change ultimately lead me to follow the path I have chosen as a public health professional. I began my career at icddr,b as a Project Research Physician in 2011. Currently I am working as an Assistant Scientist under the Infectious Diseases Division and Project Coordinator for USAID’s Alliance for Combating TB in Bangladesh. I have been involved in TB related research from the onset of my career at icddr,b. Through my research on TB, I have been involved in drug resistant TB surveillance, improving the mandatory TB notification system using mHealth, training and mobilizing internal resources to develop a sustainable and effective TB control program in prisons of Bangladesh, exploring the role bio-availability of drugs in TB treatment outcome, evaluating AI driven TB screening, and scaling up sustainable social enterprise models for TB care in the private sector. I am also involved in project management, feasibility studies, data analysis, and the development of research protocols.

Why I work at icddr,b:

The type of work I do at icddr,b motivates me greatly. I believe that my work is facilitating my desire of doing something positive for society. icddr,b  provides me the platform to do exactly the type of work I want to be engaged in.

Future Plans:

Since my career objective is to become a TB Epidemiologist, I want to continue working in the field of Tuberculosis. Through my research I want to improve the overall health status of the common people of Bangladesh by facilitating their access to health care services, and developing low cost and effective health care interventions.
