“I want to discover solutions that are effective and efficient in addressing the global burden of malnutrition which is just unacceptable.”
I am involved in doing research on undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, body composition, gut enteropathy, and nutrition-related non-communicable diseases. As an Assistant Scientist at the Nutrition and Clinical Services Division, my current work involves projects on maternal and childhood nutrition with a particular focus on child growth, maternal undernutrition, enteric infections, gut microbial alterations, and interaction between nutrition and infectious diseases. I am also involved in projects aiming to evaluate the impact of early-life events and exposures on complex biological mechanism of childhood malnutrition in relation to environmental enteropathy.
Why I work at icddr,b:
The idea of serving humanity in a meaningful way to ease human sufferings has led me to foster a riveting interest in scientific research. I am keen to look for simple and effective solutions that could save millions of lives, for instance, the smallpox vaccine or the invention of ORS. I firmly believe, icddr,b is the best platform to flourish my potential and reach my intellectual goals. The ambience and work experience at icddr,b would allow me to serve a larger community than I could have if I was a practicing medical doctor.Â
Future Plans:
I would like to continue my research works and pursue a PhD in either nutrition epidemiology or public health nutrition. My primary interest is to find effective nutrition inventions that are locally available and culturally acceptable to ameliorate childhood growth and gut microbial composition. I am also interested to collaborate with renowned nutrition scientists to contribute in transforming the landscapes of global public health nutrition.Â
