“I see a public health problem from an anthropologic lens which allows me to find solutions that are implementable and effective.”
As an Associate Scientist under the Infectious Diseases Division, my research interest revolves around the emerging public health issues of Bangladesh. Being an Anthropologist and Public Health enthusiast, I have worked in multidisciplinary teams where my knowledge in the field of Anthropology and Public Health was best put to use. Previously, I have worked on outbreak investigation, and also co-led the Bangladesh National Hygiene Survey in 2014 where I was in charge of field implementation, analysis and report writing. Currently, I am part of the Environmental Interventions Unit formerly known as the WASH research group where I am working on water pollution, urban sanitation, hygiene, anti-microbial resistance, waste management, and environmental hygiene.
Why I work at icddr,b:
icddr,b’s does research on many different public health issues. I felt that working for such an organisation would be a great opportunity where I could be involved in different types of research. It would also allow me to learn about new public health concerns in Bangladesh. I feel very proud when the type of research I do is actually implemented in policies and programmes and helps in the betterment of many in Bangladesh.Â
Future Plans:
I want to lead effective health research interventions that can help in advocating for policy change with an established public health research career. Â
